In Romans 12:2 we read "Do not conform any longer go the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."
The Greek Philosopher, Epictetus compared the people who "fit in" with the white threads of a toga-indistinguishable. He wanted to be the purple thread, that small part which is bright and makes all the rest appear graceful and beautiful. He said, "Why then do you tell me to make myself like the many, and if I do, how shall I still be purple?"
Pastor Jerry has come to the conclusion, "My Jesus is not black or white. My Jesus is purple." Pastor Jerry believes that God wants us to be the purple thread. He wants us to NOT fit in, but to stand out, which often translates to STAND UP for our faith, our God and for each other.
At Whaley, we encourage others to be purple as well--be purple.
